Maternity & Parental Leave Calculator

Automatically calculates everything from the maternity leave end date to the parental leave usage period, whether it exceeds 1 (or 1.5) years, remaining leave, and estimated parental leave pay — including simultaneous-use scenarios for both spouses.

① Maternity Leave Calculation

Enter the leave start date and (expected) birth date, and it calculates the end date based on 90 days (120 for multiple births) and whether automatic extension applies to guarantee 45 days (60 for multiple births) after birth.

Enter the leave start date and (expected) birth date.

② Special Eligibility Settings

Automatically determines eligibility for the 1.5-year extension and the 6+6 Parental Leave program, and reflects it in ③ and ⑥.

Select your special eligibility status. (Default: 1 year, general benefit)

③ Parental Leave Usage Period Calculation

If your parental leave was split, enter each period separately. If used continuously without interruption, enter just 1 row.

Total usage period: 0 months 0 days
Within 1 year

④ Calculate End Date from Start Date + Desired Duration

Enter a start date and the duration you want to use (months, days) to calculate the end date.

Enter a start date and duration.

⑤ Remaining Leave Simulation

Based on the remaining months calculated in ③, enter your expected next parental leave start date to calculate the expected end date.

12 months 0 days
Enter the expected start date.

⑥ Parental Leave Pay (Benefit) Calculation

Calculates the expected monthly payment based on the per-period usage entered in ③ and your ordinary wage. The eligibility category is automatically selected based on your settings in ②.

Enter your usage period in ③ and your ordinary wage.
"Single-parent family" refers to a mother or father under Article 4(1) of the Single-Parent Family Support Act, and "6+6 Parental Leave" applies only when both parents use parental leave (whether simultaneously or sequentially) within 18 months of the child's birth. These two special eligibility categories have different requirements and cannot both be selected at the same time. Actual payment amounts may vary depending on how ordinary wage is calculated and workplace-specific circumstances, so this is a reference estimate only — confirm the exact amount at Work24 or your local employment center.

Eligibility requirements (must be checked separately): Separately from the calculation above, parental leave pay requires at least 180 days of insured Employment Insurance coverage before the leave start date, and you must use the same parental leave for at least 30 days to be eligible for payment. If these requirements are not met, payment may not be made regardless of the amount calculated below.
Note: Built following the calculation methods of Article 74 (Maternity Leave) of the Labor Standards Act and the Ministry of Employment and Labor's parental leave usage period worksheet (Women's Employment Policy Division-326, 2020.1.16). Based on the special eligibility information entered in ②, this tool automatically determines whether the 1.5-year extension applies, but actual processing must be confirmed with your local employment center, so use this calculation result for reference only.

About This Tool

Built following the calculation methods of Article 74 (Maternity Leave) of the Labor Standards Act and the Ministry of Employment and Labor's parental leave usage period worksheet (Women's Employment Policy Division-326, 2020.1.16). From the maternity leave end date, you can calculate the parental leave usage period, whether it exceeds 1 year (or 1.5 years), remaining leave, and estimated parental leave pay all at once — including scenarios where both spouses use leave together.

How to Use
  1. ① Maternity leave calculation: Enter the leave start date, (expected) birth date, and whether it's a multiple birth, and it calculates the end date based on 90 days (120 days for multiple births) and whether automatic extension applies to guarantee 45 days (60 days for multiple births) after birth. Use the "Apply to Parental Leave" button to carry the day after the end date directly into the first period's start date in ③.
  2. ② Special eligibility settings: Enter whether you're a single-parent family or a parent of a child with a severe disability, and whether/how long your spouse has used parental leave, and it automatically determines eligibility for the 1.5-year extension and the "6+6 Parental Leave" program, reflecting this in ③ and ⑥.
  3. ③ Parental leave usage period calculation: Enter the start and end date for each period, and it automatically calculates the months and days used per period, the total combined months (N months N days), and whether it exceeds the limit determined in ② (1 year or 1.5 years). If you split your leave, click "+ Add Period" to add more rows.
  4. ④ Calculate end date from start date + desired duration: Enter a start date and the duration you want to use (months, days) to calculate the end date immediately.
  5. ⑤ Remaining leave simulation: Based on the remaining months calculated in ③, enter your expected next start date to calculate the expected end date.
  6. ⑥ Parental leave pay (benefit) calculation: Adds your ordinary wage to the per-period usage periods entered in ③ to calculate the expected monthly payment and total. The eligibility category (general, single-parent family, 6+6) is automatically selected based on your settings in ②, and can be changed manually if needed.
Limitations & Notes
  • ① Maternity leave does not account for detailed requirements limiting the number of usable days before birth (such as split usage for multiple births) — it only calculates automatic extension based on the guaranteed number of days after birth.
  • ② The special eligibility determination trusts the information you enter (single-parent family status, spouse's usage period, etc.) as-is; actual eligibility is ultimately confirmed by an employment center review.
  • ⑥ Parental leave pay is a simplified calculation based on ordinary wage and the payment cap — actual payment amounts may vary based on individual working conditions and Employment Insurance review results. Separate eligibility requirements, such as at least 180 days of insured employment before the leave start date and using the leave for at least 30 days, are not reflected, so be sure to check these separately.
  • This calculator is based on standards for private-sector employees (Act on Equal Employment and Support for Work-Family Reconciliation). Public officials can use leave until their child is age 12 or under, for up to 3 years combined between both parents, so the eligible group and duration standards differ.
  • Laws and benefit standards may be revised, so this calculator cannot guarantee it always reflects the latest standards.
  • The actual usable period and payment amount must be confirmed with your local employment center — all results from this calculator are for reference only.
FAQ
I'm using maternity leave and parental leave back to back — do I need to calculate them separately?

After calculating your maternity leave end date in ①, click the "Apply to Parental Leave" button and the day after the end date is automatically entered as the start date of the first period in ③.

Why do I need to enter my spouse's information in ② Special Eligibility Settings?

If both parents use 3 or more months of parental leave for the same child, each parent's limit is extended to 1.5 years, and if both parents use leave within 18 months of the child's birth, the 6+6 Parental Leave program (raising the monthly cap) applies. Entering your spouse's usage period lets the tool automatically determine both of these conditions.

In ⑥, the "eligibility category" changes automatically — can I choose it manually too?

Yes, it is automatically selected based on your settings in ②, but you can change it manually at any time from the dropdown. Single-parent family and 6+6 have different requirements and cannot both apply at the same time.

What if the calculation results differ from what my company or employment center tells me?

This calculator is for reference only. The actual usable period and pay must be confirmed with your local employment center, and results can vary depending on special eligibility status and how ordinary wage is calculated. Check the "Reference Materials" button at the top right for related laws and pay standards.
